Welcome to Group 11: Rev. Jabey Brewer

Jabey or J. L. as he was officially know, the youngest Brewer child, was blind in one eyes. His father Robert passed away when he just a young child. Consequently, he spent a lot of time being raised by his mother and older brothers in Pageland.
He was a graduate of Biddle College, now known as Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was also the first member of the family to own an automobile, quite a luxury in those days. He was the Pastor of Hermon Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC.
He was married to Julia Ratcliff Brewer. He had one child: Bertha Brewer Richardson.
At the time of his death, Jabey lived in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina near his sister Effie. He owned the following property:

- Lot 10 in Block “I”;
- and all lots in Block “Q”;
- the remainder of Block “M” lying between Henry Simon and John Nivens on which are two dwellings described as Lots 1 and 2 in Block “I”;
- A lot conveyed by Catherine Fairley and husband, J.M. Fairley on the first day of October 1912.
T.F. Brewer (his brother Thomas) was the administrator of Jabey’s will. Interestingly, S. W. Watts of South Carolina was the Notary Public for the will. In the will, below are some of the several disbursements:
